In light of the recent attacks on minority ethnic members of our community in Great Britain and Ireland, we, the undersigned members of the creative community, stand together in unwavering support and solidarity with our colleagues who may have migrated or taken refuge here or those who may feel frightened and further marginalised by these violent threats and the rioting we’ve seen directed at members of our minority ethnic communities.

  1. We unequivocally condemn the acts of violence, discrimination, and intimidation that have targeted individuals and their communities based on their ethnicity and background. Such actions are in direct opposition to the values of an artistically diverse and mutually respectful artistic community that we all strive to nurture.
  2. To our colleagues who may feel increasingly vulnerable or marginalised at this time, we want you to know that you are not alone. We stand with you, we support you, and we will advocate for your safety and well-being. Your presence and contribution are invaluable to the deepening richness and diverse vibrancy of our whole community and to a pluralist and progressive society.
  3. Our creative community thrives on diversity. We pledge where possible to foster an environment where every artist or creative producer, regardless of their background, feels valued, safe, and included. We will continue to celebrate the diverse voices, stories, and talents that each of you brings.
  4. We urge our colleagues and peer institutions, and the broader public to join us in taking concrete actions to combat racism and xenophobia. This includes educating ourselves and others about the harmful impacts of discrimination, advocating for policies that protect minority communities, and creating safe spaces for creativity, dialogue and collaboration.
  5. We commit to providing support and resources for those affected by these recent events. This includes offering, where we can, mental health support, creating platforms for voices to be heard, and ensuring that incidents of racism and violence are reported and addressed appropriately.
  6. We recognise that solidarity is not a one-time declaration but an ongoing commitment. We will remain vigilant, continue to speak out against injustice, and work collectively towards a society where everyone can live without fear and where creativity flourishes in an environment of mutual respect and equality.

Together, we can and will build a more inclusive and compassionate creative community.
